Target Vehicle Exercises at Gila Bend, AZ

Here are a few photo’s of what I have been up to the last seven days in Gila Bend Arizona. We built out nine Jeep Cherokee’s as full size radio controlled target vehicles, installing servo’s to control steering, brakes, accelerator and shifter. We also installed radio’s to control the vehicles remotely, as well as a video camera looking out the drivers seat. We drive the vehicles from a hill top 2 miles from the air strip.

F-16’s then practices laser targeting and dropping GBU-12 guided 500lbs. bombs on our moving vehicles. We drive them anywhere from 30-60MPH down an unpaved air strip. These GBU-12s are inert practice bombs. They look just like the real thing, except they are filled with concrete, instead of HE. (high explosive)
